Five questions, about thirty seconds. The answer is not a brand name first — it is the type of setup that fits where you live, how often you will actually plunge, and what your floor and wiring can take. Then we point you to the page that covers it.
How the Finder Decides
- Floor first. A filled portable plunge with one adult weighs roughly 1,000–1,300 lb. On upper floors, decks and balconies that question comes before any product. The load arithmetic is here.
- Frequency second. Below about three sessions a week, bagged ice is cheaper than a chiller; above it, the chiller pays for itself. The break-even maths is here.
- Power third. Chillers run continuously and usually need a dedicated, GFCI-protected circuit. In a rental that is the landlord’s decision. Renters, start here.
- Brand last. Only once the category is settled does it make sense to compare models. Our roundup includes brands that pay us nothing.
Cold water immersion is a real stress on the heart and circulation. If you have a heart condition, high blood pressure or are pregnant, talk to a doctor first, and never plunge alone.
